The Paladin tabbed senior midfielder Paige Harman as Athlete of the Month for March 2025.
Harman is a senior from Fairport, N.Y. and is an Earth and Environmental Sciences Major. When asked about why she chose Furman, Harman said, “I loved the area, the size of the school, and the idea of being able to pursue my education in Environmental Science. I had a few other schools I was looking at, but Furman felt most like home.”
Furman’s women’s lacrosse team is now on their third head coach in three years, though all this change has not stopped Harman or the team. The newest head coach for Furman women’s lacrosse is Gail Wallach who came after a successful term as the head coach at the DII level at Anderson University.
“… We [upperclassmen] have been used to being able to adapt between coaching styles. I think our success from our new coaches has been creating a game schedule that allowed us to perform as best as we can.” said Harman.
The Dins have gone 9-3 and won their home opener for the first time since 2020. When asked about one of the biggest moments so far this season Harman pinpointed this game. “With a whole new coaching staff and 17 new girls coming into our program I think we were all a little anxious to see how the team would look this year. But it was a great game and an amazing experience. “ said Harman
Throughout the season, Harman has amassed 58 points with 29 goals and 29 assists. The Dins have gone 9-3 so far this season with only the backend of their Big South conference slate remaining before the postseason.
Harman is an offense threat for Furman, but she is also an extremely good playmaker on the field. Harman leads the team in assists. Harman’s playmaking ability is something she has worked on since she was little. “Growing up, I would always be at practices with a ball in my stick and messing around with my stick when I wasn’t in a drill. Getting comfortable with the ball when I was young helped me because now it is second nature.” said Harman.
Harman tends to rely on her high game IQ as she has racked up assists this season. When trying to balance goal-scoring and setting her teammates up for success, Harman said, “I think it just naturally happens when you choose the most open look.”
For the rest of season, Harman will continue to maintain her high contributions of goals and assists every game. “As a team, the end goal from the start has been to win the Big South conference and get a bid into the NCAA tournament. I think if we keep getting better game after game and building on our successes we have a chance.” said Harman.
Furman women’s lacrosse will travel to Macon, Ga. to face their biggest Big South challenge on April 23 at 4 p.m. They will then come home to face Winthrop in the regular season finale on April 26 at 2 p.m. The Big South women’s tournament begins on April 29. All remaining games will be streamed on ESPN+.
