Espresso, macchiato, latte…the possibilities for your coffee order are virtually endless. But where can you grab the best cup of coffee in the Greenville area? As for myself, I have become a big fan of London Fogs lately (an Earl Grey tea latte) and have not ordered coffee in quite some time. However, back in my regular, normal coffee order days (which was a dirty chai most of the time. Would that make me a tea person?), I was always on the search for the absolute best coffee shop in Greenville that fueled my caffeine crave and provided an environment perfect for studying.
To study effectively, I personally need a bright environment, typically one with many windows. That means somewhere like Coffee Underground, which has bronze lighting, and a very dark feel, was not for me. And while their coffee wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t my favorite place to visit. Personally, the more windows there are, the better. This also crosses out Spill the Beans (or maybe that’s because I only visit in the evening… ice cream anyone?).
But beyond just atmosphere, the quality of a store’s product is equally important, especially if you grace your taste buds over their drinks and their food. So, while an option like Mountain Goat provides a phenomenal environment, I have never been the biggest fan of their coffee. I love visiting Mountain Goat, especially for their convenient hours and proximity to campus, but I would just visit elsewhere if I wanted coffee. This also goes for Due South Coffee Roasters. Such a cool place, but not my favorite!
This leaves me with my two go-to spots in Greenville: Methodical Coffee and The Village Grind. In all honesty, I have yet to find anywhere that exceeds the deliciousness of any of the products I’ve tried from these places.
The shop I visit most frequently is Methodical’s downtown location. There are plenty of windows, plus it is situated in a unique and fun region in the downtown area. Afterwards, I can go right next door to Anthropologie or even take a trip across the street to dine at Trio. I like their Wade Hampton location, but find it a tad darker than their downtown location. Their Commons location is also nice for longer hours to get work done, but it can get loud. Downtown, for me, is the unmatched option.
Though The Village Grind is a little farther away from campus, it never disappoints. For one, it is in a cool part of town. Sometimes it can be difficult to find seating (lots of people seem to agree with me about how amazing it is!), but the search for a seat is well worth venturing out there to try the coffee and get some work done. Also, if you’re hungry for something a bit more substantial while in the area, you can always go next door and grab a smoothie bowl or fresh juice at Kuka Juice! I did their juice cleanse last semester, and it surprisingly was fantastic!
As you can tell, it’s hard to go wrong with finding your favorite coffee study space in Greenville! You might love a darker atmosphere to get work done, and if so, I would recommend Coffee Underground for your liking. If you’re like me and prefer bright and airy, try some of my top recommendations — trust me, you won’t be disappointed! And maybe after trying their coffee, you could add a London Fog to your order. You definitely cannot go wrong with that one.
