Letter from the Editor

This week, flags above the South Carolina Statehouse were flown at half staff. On Thursday the 8th, Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was the longest reigning monarch in British history. Even though Great Britain is around 4,000 miles from Greenville, South Carolina, I have felt the gravity of this event on Furman’s campus. To mark the twenty first anniversary of 9-11, the Furman Conservative Society planted flags on the Milford Mall to commemorate the lives lost in the terrorist attacks. Furman does not exist in a vacuum, nor should it. Events like these permeate the membrane of the “Furman Bubble,” and challenge us to reckon with these pivotal moments while we navigate life as college students. We honor the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and victims of 9-11.– Scotty Bryan    Editor in Chief, The Paladin
