Forget Greek Life halls in Clark Murphy Complex, get ready for all Greek apartment buildings. As announced by Furman Housing and Residential Life, North Village K is to be renamed “Sigma Khi”.
“All of Sig Chi already lives there, why not just make it for the entire frat. Most students assume K is all Greek anyway, we are just making it more official. And honestly, it’s about time.” said Associate Director of Housing Residence Life Curtis Nash.
While Furman did get rid of fraternity houses in Fall 2020, nothing has stopped Greek Life organizations from conquering North Village one building at a time. The fraternities are the most notorious at this.
When asked the reasoning behind this change, Furman’s Director of Student Involvement, Jordan King, said “Why the hell not?”
A set of Sigma Chi Greek letters have already begun to be constructed onto the side of the apartment building thanks in part to a few Sigma Chi brothers wanting to get ahead of the game. FUPO has also promised to only investigate every other LiveSafe report in North Village K.
“This is so exciting for our chapter, thank you to Furman and to Furman Housing for helping us out so much!” said Aaron Thompson ‘25, a member of Sigma Chi. “This is like Christmas with more beer.”
“I can’t wait to get closer to my brothers by living in Sigma Khi. This is such an honor for Furman to bestow upon our chapter. I am so excited to be able to have a backyard area that is only for brothers!” said Dan Smith ‘27.
There is speculation surrounding which building could be retitled next. Experts from The Horse believe that North Village J will be next and that it will be renamed to Ji Kappa Phi after it is finally remodeled this summer.
