Walker Crosby Wins GCAA Tournament in Augusta, GA

With Crosby’s motivation and determination, this will probably be the first of many wins to come for the budding Paladin star.

Despite official competitions being on hold, Furman Golf players continue to find ways to compete. Not only are the Dins competing, but they are winning. The latest victory comes from sophomore golfer Walker Crosby who secured his first amateur level win at the GCAA AM Series at Forest Hills held in Augusta, Georgia.

Crosby carded impressive rounds of 68/71/66 to win the GCAA Amateur series, which is his career low for a three-round tournament. He won by one stroke, with four players within one shot of the lead. Going into the final round, he was six strokes behind the leader but came back to win the tournament. Crosby’s 6-under 65 was the lowest of the final round. Reflecting on this win, Crosby talked about the importance of “conserving energy” wherever possible to be able to “perform down the stretch.”

Leading up to the tournament, Crosby spent a great deal of time and energy focusing on “playing consistently” and “staying patient,” which he sees as a big improvement in his game. Beyond working to elevate his performance, Crosby also discussed how the support from his teammates and coaches has helped motivate him to continue to reach his goals and push forward. When asked if COVID-19 has affected his game, he said it has had little effect on golf as the sport is naturally outside and socially distanced. With Crosby’s motivation and determination, this will probably be the first of many wins to come for the budding Paladin star.
