Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Rise In Conference Play

The Furman men’s lacrosse team (2-7, 2-1 SoCon) notched back-to-back wins Saturday afternoon, beating the Jacksonville Dolphins 13-7.

The win comes after the Paladins beat VMI 18-5 on Sat., March 26. The Paladins were led by freshmen William Holcomb and David Williams, who both netted three goals against the VMI Keydets.

In the team’s matchup versus the Jacksonville Dolphins, the Paladins were led by junior Stephen Wierzbicki and freshman Finn Barry with three goals apiece.

The Paladins were down 3-1 at the end of the first period, but brilliantly fought back and scored four straight goals to take a 5-4 lead with 3:51 remaining in the period. After a Dolphin goal, the Paladins scored three more to make it an 8-5 Paladin lead going into halftime.

The Paladins controlled the second half, outscoring the Dolphins 4-2 and headed into the locker room with their second straight SoCon win.

The Furman women’s lacrosse team (6-4, 1-0 A-Sun) rebounded from a loss to John Hopkins and is currently first in conference play after a 20-5 victory over Howard University Fri., April 1.

The Paladins were led by junior Ashley Trice, who notched four goals, as well as freshman Abby Shield and sophomore Meg Lingo, who had three goals apiece.

Trice scored the opening goal, which kicked off a Paladin 4-0 streak to begin the game. Howard scored its first goal with 22:09 left in the half, but the Paladins responded with an 8-3 scoring run and entered the half with a 12-4 lead. The Paladins dominated the second half, outscoring the Bison 8-1, finishing the game with a 15-point victory.

The men’s team is back in action Sat., April 9, hosting Richmond at 12:00 p.m. The women’s team will face Central Michigan at home Fri., April 8 at 6:00 p.m.
