Furman’s football team traveled to nearby Clemson University on Nov. 22 for their final game of the 2025 Season. The Paladins fell 45-10.
Furman went into Memorial Stadium as big underdogs, hoping for an upset. Clemson was 5-5 on the season prior to the game and had to beat Furman to become eligible for a bowl game.
During the first quarter, Furman’s defense held up as they forced Clemson to attempt a field goal in their first drive. Clemson’s sophomore kicker Nolan Hauser made a 45-yard field goal to put the Tigers up 3-0.
Clemson then went on to score 28 unanswered points as Furman’s offense failed to get a solid offensive drive. The Tigers led 31-0.
With 30 seconds left in the second quarter, Furman graduate kicker Ian Williams connected on a 49-yard field goal to move the score to 31-3.
In Clemson’s first two drives of the third quarter, Furman’s defense forced them to punt.
Sophomore quarterback Trey Hedden led Furman down the field in a six-play, 55-yard drive that finished with a 19-yard touchdown pass caught by freshman wide receiver Evan James.
With that touchdown, Furman cut into the Clemson lead 31-10.
Furman then forced Clemson to punt for the third straight time. The Paladins offense got another chance to score again with a field goal. However, Williams’ kick went wide right, and it remained a three possession game.
The Tigers reached the endzone twice in the fourth quarter, including a touchdown with nine seconds left in the game, capping off the 45-10 win.
Furman completed the game with 271 yards of offense. Hedden completed 22-of-38 pass attempts and had 179 passing yards. After the completion of the game, Hedden surpassed the single season record of 2,959 passing yards set by Ingle Martin ‘06.
Redshirt sophomore defensive end Joshua Stoneking contributed a sack and three tackles-for-a-loss to finish the regular season leading the FCS with 14.5 sacks and 23 tackles-for-a-loss.
Following the loss, Furman finished their season with a 6-6 record, an improvement from last season’s 3-8 record.
